Graphical abstracts are optional, but allow readers to further involve themselves in the articles that they read by gathering more information about what you state within your article through the abstract that you provide. It will be displayed in online search result lists and during our quarterly print editions.
Through the considerations that you may provide, the graphical abstract you create may be the cover image of your work. We urge you to make your graphical abstracts visually-appealing and engaging, incorporating annotations and descriptions as well as their corresponding visionary components. Please make sure to make them fairly easier for the readers of your article to walk through and learn about.
Instead of editing the visionary components or other information on the graphical abstract, the Editing service will choose to either incorporate the visual component or not and email the confirmation of whether it is to be included in the final published draft. If the graphical abstract is not accepted, then the one who drafts the article may submit that graphical abstract to another publication along with a new article that they create. Upon request, we will provide feedback as to why a graphical abstract is denied over email.
Using generative AI for these graphical abstracts is not allowed. While we do use AI to adapt the Lexile-levels of various articles through our "filters," and often use AI to adapt a text submission to align with the scientific-technical term level of each set of grade levels (phases: 6th to 8th, 9th and 10th, 11th and 12th), we want to instill curiosity within our readers and writers to research more to develop their understanding on topics that may relate to what they learn in the school-setting, but still convey many current real-world implications. They often ask more questions from their own introspection that take more time to develop by conducting that research without generative AI, allowing them to deepen their understanding of various concepts. We believe that it also encourages creativity and problem solving skills.
To submit a graphical abstract, please attach it onto the email that you send with your article that has been completed through the help of a word processing document. You may also attach whatever cover image that you want to go onto your article as well. Or, you may fill out all of the required information on the Submissions page.
Please read the following to learn about the criteria behind submitting cover images of articles and other images:
You may submit any image that relates to the content of your article by citing the source that you use, using the American Medical Association citing formatting. The title of the image should be formatted as "Title of Article.OtherImage.Author of Text." They will be added onto the appendix page. The appendix is featured at the bottom of the article.
